James (24 years old from Leasingham) suffered with motor function impairments and mental disabilities from birth. Mum, Stella, has lived in her current house for 12 years, with James previously living in a care home nearby, in a shared bungalow, where he didn’t have very much freedom at all. He wouldn’t be able to go out unless other residents were going out, etc, and he felt stifled and restricted in his daily routine.
Although James still has severe care requirements, needing full-time carers round the clock, his new custom-built home grants him a level of freedom and comfort he could not have imagined. LHIA oversaw every aspect of the process. From surveying the site to drawing up design drafts to sourcing reliable contractors and trusted traders, Lincolnshire Home Independence Agency (LHIA) took care of the whole process.
Stella says the home adaptation has completely transformed James’ life, as now he is able to live at home, on his terms. “It’s just perfect for James as he can essentially control his own life now. He can go out when he wants, where he wants. He has his own front door so he needn’t disturb us when he travels with his carers, and he’s always out and about somewhere!
“It’s exactly right for our needs. The adaptation means we can oversee his care but also give him a sense of freedom. But most importantly, he’s back in the family now, which is priceless.
“We could visit him in his shared care home but he felt so isolated being so far from us. Now he’s meters away in a totally self-contained space. It’s his own little bachelor pad and he loves it!
“Contacting LHIA was the turning point for us. Although we could have gone through social services, the facilities built would have been nothing on this scale. It facilitates all aspects of his care and it’s put my mind
