Muriel (from East Lindsey) was living in a small but ageing mobile residential home which had become a daily danger to her. She found herself constantly troubled by tripping hazards, difficulty accessing the property and bathing. LHIA’s Housing Options Advisor visited her at home to discuss her options and after some thought, she decided moving home to more accessible accommodation was the right option for her. LHIA was there to reassure that this was a move she wouldn’t have to make on her own.
Muriel was successful in obtaining a suitable alternative flat through a local housing association, which provides her with safe, warm and secure living accommodation free from hazards. LHIA helped her communicate with her new and former landlords, helped with her with packing, arranged a trusted removal firm, took her away on the day of removal to minimize the stress, helped her unpack and generally gave her support, encouragement and a hand to hold on the day.
“It was nice to talk to somebody about my needs and actually have them not only listen but also make the conscious and deliberate decision to help me,” says Muriel. “I feel like for the first time in years my life is in my hands again, and LHIA are helping me to take control.”
