Celebrating 10 years’ service to the local community

5th May 2016 - 0 Comments

1L0A4024We recently marked our 10th anniversary with a day and evening of celebration at The Bentley Hotel, Lincoln. The programme of events included an afternoon reception and dinner with staff awards.  We were very pleased to welcome our President the Rt Revd Christopher Lowson, the Lord Bishop of Lincoln and a range of local stakeholders, including suppliers, contractors, customers, other charitable organisations and representatives of public bodies.

Our work has traditionally included major property adaptations, (such as installation of a ramp, stair lift or wetroom) and minor adaptations (for example fitting a grab rail), property improvements and/or repairs.  However, we’ve come a long way since our inception; having expanded the scope of our services and more than doubled staff, we’re now making a big difference to more people’s lives than ever before.

In April 2014, we became lead partner for Lincs Independent Living Partnership (LILP) in delivery of the Wellbeing Service on behalf of Lincolnshire County Council.  The Wellbeing Service gives people one-to-one support with any issue which might affect their independence and wellbeing.  The sorts of problems caseworkers typically help address include advice and support regarding benefits, grants and debt, dealing with authorities and mobility around the home.

In its first year of operation, the Wellbeing Service supported 4,442 local people, whilst helping to prevent accident and illness and keep people out of hospitals and institutional care.  Public Health commissioners estimate that, in its first year, the Wellbeing Service has saved £1.5 million compared to previous models.

Mick King, Agency Director, comments: ‘We were delighted when LILP won the Wellbeing Service contract, because we bid against national providers. It is great that it was not only awarded to a local consortium, but fantastic to report that it has been extended for a third year.’

This new departure in LHIA’s work is good for the local economy too: in 2014/15 alone our supply chain included thirty local contractors and our activities led to nearly £1.6 million being circulated in the local economy.

The Wellbeing Service delivered by LILP is available in full in five of Lincolnshire’s seven districts; Boston Borough, the City of Lincoln, South Holland, South Kesteven and West Lindsey; and the Home Safe hospital-supported discharge, which is part of it, is also available in East Lindsey and North Kesteven.

LHIA’s 10th anniversary celebrations are set to continue with a series of events planned for the remainder of the year.
